2. List the priorities of Danon’s care in order of significance. Describe your rationale.
1. Safety, Safety is the priority. Abuse carries a risk of mortal harm.
2. Fluid balance: Physiologically, fluid balance is essential for survival.
3. Nutrition: A growing child must have essential nutrients that support normal growth and development. Damon has some eating concerns that may indicate eating disorders and place him at risk for malnutrition and decreased immunity
4. Family dynamics and education: Families with children with chronic illnesses or disabilities are at risk for additional stress and resulting dysfunction. Education is needed to deal with autistic behaviors and their impact on siblings and family functions. Education is needed for the risk of abuse and stress management.
5. Comfort: Both physical and emotional comfort are necessary for well-being. Parents should be alert to signs of discomfort as Damon may not be able to communicate these to them in an expected manner
6. Collaborative diagnosis: Collaboration with social workers to assess and monitor family dynamics and risk for abuse and referral to services and community support resources related to autism. Neurology for diagnosis of autism. Nutritionist for assistance with dietary preferences and habits. Assessment for physical and occupational therapy and speech therapies.
