Purpose

This module will guide you in designing assessment activities for a distance mode of delivery. You will develop your understanding of assessment methods and assessment processes so that you can improve your own assessment practice.  This is critically important as an educator because it is widely accepted that assessment plays a major role in determining the learning behaviour of students, i.e. assessment drives learning.  You will also be guided in the evaluation of a programme.

Once you’ve completed the learning activities for this module, you should be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of higher education assessment theory and practice.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the integration of content, outcomes and assessment in higher distance education.
• Discuss challenges relating to assessment of student learning in higher distance education.
• Monitor the effectiveness and success of academic programmes by means of appropriate assessment tools.
