Now that you have studied a broad range of educational theories and practices, illustrate how you will go about choosing which teaching methods to use with your learners to achieve different types of learning outcomes. This is your opportunity to test your online teaching and learning pedagogy in preparation for the summative assessment.
Choose one learning objective. This objective can fall in any of the three domains (cognitive, affective or psychomotor). In order to select the most appropriate method, answer these five questions:
- What is the learning outcome? What type of learning does it describe?
- What method (for example, direct lecture, demonstration or peer teaching) would be best suited to help the learners achieve the intended outcome? Motivate your answer with reference to the online pedagogical considerations reflected in your set of teaching principles.
- How can I ensure that my learners will be comfortable with the selected method? Discuss the steps you will take to ensure that the learning experience is relevant, informative, engaging and enjoyable. Draw on the elements of learning experience design and take the characteristics of your audience into account when you answer this question.
- In what way does the method suit my teaching style and expertise? Illustrate your answer with examples.
- How can I ensure the method is practicable? Discuss the issues that you will take into account (for example digital literacy and time required) to ensure that the method can be implemented with the resources you can access in your teaching context.
