Contents of report and reflection
Section 1: Motivation for the development of the field of distance higher education: A South African historical perspective (Maximum 1 A 4 page: 10 marks)
- Focus: Historical developmental trends in South African distance higher education
Section 2: Distance higher education as a subfield of the field of Higher Education Studies and research (Maximum 1 A 4 page: 10 marks)
- Focus: Reflect on the relation between distance higher education and the other sub-fields within higher education studies.
Section 3: Two relevant underpinning theories for the development of an outline and framework for distance and online teaching in higher education (Maximum 1 A 4 page: 10 marks)
- Focus: Motivate and explain two theories of your choice that underpin the framework for distance and online teaching appropriately.
Section 4: Towards a framework for distance/ online teaching/pedagogical skills (Maximum 2 A 4 page: 20 marks)
- Focus: Delivery of content; concept of instruction; engaging of students; view of students; view of instructor/lecturer.
Section 5: Sound pedagogy as the foundation for online and distance learning (Maximum 2 A 4 page: 40 marks)
- Focus: Notion of learning facilitation/role of instructor; nature of teaching and learning in the online space; relation between instructor and student; relation between student and the content; student and the construction of knowledge/views and theories on learning; online pedagogical processes; nature of the relation between pedagogy and digital technologies and ICT’s; learner autonomy and activity; modes of learner and teacher presence; relationship between content and learning; relation between learner and learning; learner needs and pedagogical implications.
